Balls!!!

It’s all been going on today. W had a day off because he couldn’t have yesterday off for my birthday. Actually, the real reason was because we’d booked a load of appointments that W needed to take us to. So not really much of a birthday day off for me ;)

This morning I had to go to the dentist for a filling in my wisdom tooth. I would rather the dentist had pulled it out as I’m sure my lower teeth are too crowded. But no, he decided that a filling was the way to go. I think I was quite brave, considering my hatred for needles. And why are dentist needles twice as big as the ones at the doctors? They’re all old fashioned metal looking ones. No wonder people are scared of the dentist. After my time in the chair I then had to go and see the Optician to get a form filled out, plus go shopping in Tesco, all the while dribbling and talking like I’d been punched in the mouth. I found myself telling everyone just in case they wondered why I had dribble on my chin! Then I had to endure W teasing me all morning because I couldn’t talk.

Before playgroup I took S to school to try on his new uniform. I still have to buy him some trousers and shoes but he is now the proud owner of 3 polo shirts, 2 jumpers and a book bag. I was very good and didn’t cry. I think I’m still telling myself it isn’t happening, that he’s staying at playgroup forever. It doesn’t help that the teachers there keep saying how much they’ll miss him…boo hoo :’(

After playgroup S had his speech therapy appointment. It went well although there are still areas to work on. After his paediatrician appt on the 6th I will be posting about it all…watch this space.

This evening my sister took me and the kitten to the vet for her jabs and a check up. She didn’t like the car journey much but seemed ok once we got there. We took her in to the vet who was really nice and made a fuss of her. She asked if we had a name yet. ‘Yes we’ve decided to call her Tabitha, Tabby for short’ (original I know!). After much debating we decided on the name and S has been using it too. Great.

The vet had a little feel of her tummy and said she might have worms so in went the worming tablet. I had been asking her for tips to get her to use the litter tray because she doesn’t seem to want to use it. Also she meows an awful lot, but the vet confirmed what we were thinking, that there’s a touch of Siamese in her. That would explain the big ears and constant noise!

Then the vet started fiddling around in the nether regions. Ok, so that’s what vets have to do, I thought. Then she dropped the bombshell. In 10 seconds Tabitha had a sex change. Yes. She is in fact a BOY!!!! Both my sister and I were gobsmacked! So my much awaited female kitten has turned out to be a he. But do I care? No! I love him! But now I have to think of a new name!

I got home and said to W,

‘So do you want to know how it went?’

‘Yeah’

(I fill him in on the jabs, etc, while my sister tries to stifle her giggles)

‘So do you think there’s anything the vet might have found?’

‘What?’

‘Anything about her that might be different? Anything at all?’

‘No what do you mean?’

‘Do you think the vet might have found something dangling?’

‘What? What are you talking about?!’ (Oh come on W get there faster!)

‘You know, like BALLS!!!! She’s a boy!!!’

‘Ohhhhhhhh’

Don’t worry, I made him feel suitably guilty. I was a bit miffed at his Mum’s friend too. Until I found out the next bombshell. His Mum rang tonight and informed us that her friend just found out today that at 42, she’s 7 months pregnant!!! No wonder her judgement was a bit off!! Apparently she went to the doctors feeling ill and came out with the news that she’s expecting another baby. She already has a 22 and 11 year old. What a shock! I think I can forgive her for the sex change ;)

So any names or tips on litter training would be gratefully received…

Oooh almost forgot, recycling is going well this week. As well has composting my food I have also included shredded bills and such like. I also bought a bag for life today rather than use a plastic one. I’m really grateful to Almost Mrs Average for highlighting such a good cause. Head over to her blog to see how she is eliminating waste from her life – very inspiring :)

  1. Lol oh dear a boy! Ahhh but a siam cross :( now I really want one (we had two gorgeous siamese so loving and yes vocal!) try different litter, my lot used to like the lightweight stuff, ok so they did eat it too but they got the idea. Mmmm a name tho and one that's similar to the one you've been using... might just have to shorten it to tabs or something equally uninspired. Are you sure you can't e-mail me a kitty? Nite nite luv Karen x

  2. MGM - His ears are really big! But he is completely tabby and miaows constantly for attention. He needs more attention than the kids at the moment!! Today he has used the tray all day so fingers crossed he's getting used to it. Get a real kitty!! xx

  4. OMG! I feel sorry for that pregnant lady! Bet she felt she was just coming out of a dark tunnel only to be shunted back to the start again! Congratulations to her anyway.

  7. Blimey, you're very busy! We had a male hamster who then had eleven babies. Clearly we'd got the sex wrong too. Easily done, apparently!!!

  8. Wow, that's quite a day!!

Totall feel your pain re: the dentist - I had a rot filling done on Thursday, and it's still throbbing :(

As for the sex change kitty (aww!), couldn't he just be tabbie rather than tabitha?
And that poor lady - 2 months to get ready for a new arrival?! Even if I'd done it a dozen times before I think I'd have a melt down!!

  9. CJ - That seems to happen to a lot of people! Next time I'm checking myself!!! x

RM - Me too, only 6 weeks or so to prepare for a new baby!! I don't think 9 mths is even long enough (although believe me I wouldn't want to be pregnant for longer than that)!! x

Sandy - Yes and it's cheaper to get the balls chopped!! x

Laura - I think I'm still in denial about S going to school! x

    Rosie - 11?! That's a lot of hamsters running around! x

Miss L - Mine is still hurting too :( I think we have agreed on kitty's name...although I'm a bit embarrassed to say what it is! x
